Do not induce vomiting. Identify substance. Call 999 or 111.

Call 999 where appropriate

Actions

  • Identify substance — keep container/label for paramedics.
  • Dial 999 if unresponsive, struggling to breathe, seizing.
  • Otherwise NHS 111 for guidance.
  • Do NOT make casualty vomit.
  • If corrosive substance on lips/mouth: sip cool water, wipe away.
  • Recovery position if unconscious but breathing.

Chemical eye splash

  • Flush with cool running water for 20 minutes, holding lids open
  • Then call 999
