Emergency
Seizures
Protect from injury — do not restrain. Time the seizure.
During the seizure
- Note the time it started.
- Move hard objects away. Cushion head.
- Loosen tight clothing around neck.
- Do NOT restrain, hold down, or put anything in mouth.
After the seizure
- Place in recovery position.
- Reassure — confusion is normal.
- Check for injuries.
- Stay with casualty until fully recovered.
Call 999 if
- First seizure ever
- Lasts more than 5 minutes
- Second seizure without recovery in between
- Injury sustained
- Difficulty breathing after
- Seizure in water
