Non-statutory power to prevent or stop a breach of the peace.

What counts as a breach

  • Harm caused to a person or property in their presence, OR
  • Person is in fear of such harm.

Your powers

  • Any person (including security) may take reasonable steps to prevent or stop a breach.
  • May detain briefly to prevent immediate breach.
  • Should hand over to police as soon as practicable.
