The legal basis for using force in prevention of crime or lawful arrest.
Text (simplified)
- A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large.
Application
- Justifies reasonable force in ejections, arrests, and preventing crimes in progress.
- Must be for prevention of crime or lawful arrest — not for punishment.
